Lets face it, one of the ways children like to interact with toys is by putting them in their mouth.
These days after hearing about how in the past lead paint was used on toys and the dangers of lead paints, parents naturally are concerned about any paint or stain used on a child’s toy.
When we are at markets we are often asked “Are the coloured toys safe for younger children?”
We also are concerned about this so are very careful about what stains and varnish we use.
We use Resene Colorwood to stain our toys and they are varnished over the stain with Aquaclear.
* Must be overcoated
** Mixed into appropriate clear waterborne timber finish
Resene are very confident about the suitability of these paints and varnishes for children’s toys and have list of suitable products that can be used.
As you can see both Colorwood and Aquaclear are listed there as well.
For our natural wooden toys we make our own beeswax polish, using beeswax heated with olive oil to make a soft wax to polish our toys. No extra additives are added.
