Wooden products

Apart from wooden toys, we have made other wooden products for various projects.

rimu 21st keyOne such item is a 21st Rimu kiwi which is also available on our store.

It has a clip on the back for hanging it on the wall.

When Bazza made it, he had a bit of humour in his mind as 21st keys are always a popular birthday item for the big 21 in our children’s lives.

So he told me he had made his own 21st key wee (kiwi)

However there have been a few items we have made  for various reasons which aren’t available for purchase.

One is a 50th Kiwi on a stand which we made for Bazzas 50th birthday as our gift 50th kiwito him.

He was delighted with it and has it on display and appreciated it all the more because Bazza had made it for him rather than buy a gift from a shop.

This was also made from recycled rimu from an old house that was demolished next door to us after the old man died and the property was sold and the house demolished to make way for a new house.

The second one was made for a near neighbour  down the road who wanted it for a christmas present and had not been able to find what he wanted anywhere else.

Because he was a neighbour,  Bazza accepted his order  so made this rimu egg holding chook out of recycled timber.

He was delighted with as was the person who was the recipient of the gift.rimu egg basket 2

It seems that this type of wooden egg holder is hard to come across these days although a few years ago ones made from metal were all the rage. But sadly even the metal ones are hard to find now.

Shown here is the view from the front which gives you an indication of the size since it is holding 30 eggs.

stepping stoolOne of our regular customers came to us with a special order and just wouldn’t take no for an answer. She knew what she wanted and there was no one else she would trust with the project as it was a special present for her grandson ( who had been a regular recipient of our toys).

And so this stool made for this lady’s grandson on request, as she wanted it painted bright in a number of different colours.

Recently my mothers beloved cat had to be put to sleep. This was a heart rending decision as the cat had developed a thyroid problem but was refusing to take the medication even when put on her paw with butter. We decided to keep the cat as long as possible until the time came to take her to the vet to have her put to sleep. My mother and I stayed there while she was put to sleep and had a big crying session afterwards. It is amazing how much pets become part of our lives. We had already decided we were going to get her cremated so she would still be with us.

tuppences boxWhen we discussed cremation with the vet we were told that we could get a rimu box for the ashes but I knew that Bazza would do a fantastic job on this instead, so we went for the cardboard box option. We were happy to find the cardboard box came with a a lovely fake rose as well.

For a while Tuppence’s ashes stayed in the cardboard box at Mum’s until she was ready to part with them ( and Bazza’s work schedule was able to fit in building the box) so the box could be made.

Bazza has done an absolutely fantastic job of making Tuppence’s rimu cremation box as you can see. It has also been carefully varnished. We got a special name tag done at the pet store engraved with her name to put on the box.

And of course the rose sits on the box as well.tuppences box2

My mother will now be able display the box on her large coffee table and spend a few moments remembering Tuppence when she wishes.
